Formed because communities across NSW deserve better than planning imposed without consultation.
Doing Density Better is an alliance of NSW community action groups established as a Working Group of the Better Planning Network Inc — an organisation that has advocated for better planning outcomes in NSW since 2012.
Doing Density Better has formed in response to the destructive impact on local communities of recent NSW Government planning changes, including Transport Oriented Development rezonings, Low and Mid-Rise Housing provisions, and the State Significant Development approval pathway.
These changes are too often producing housing outcomes that are neither affordable nor liveable — and in many cases resulting in a net loss of housing, particularly affordable studio and one-bedroom apartments.
While additional housing and density are needed across Sydney, Doing Density Better believes the current mass rezonings are causing fear, insecurity and displacement, while eroding trust in the planning system.
